The Occupied is a film about the life of five Palestinians in Gaza and on The West Bank. The story about their ‘ocupied’ everyday is interwoven with the depiction of the history of the Palestinian nation since losing their land in 1948.
The film deals with the repression and the demonic nature of occupation; with the hatred and anger of a nation, whose every breath has been controlled by the state of Israel. It is, however, also a film about the zest for life and love that, no matter what, is increasing during their involuntary confinement.
The film was awarded the Grand Prix at the Odense International Film Festival in 2003.
In connection with the film Jørgen Flindt Pedersen furthermore published the book ‘Brylluppet i Ramallah’(The Wedding in Ramallah), Gyldendal, 2003.
